PANEL Mana Contemporary 'Climate Scientists, Culture and Local Government: The Frontline of Combating Climate Change'
11AM EST, 2PM PST
RSVP (free online event)
While the crisis is global and worldwide coordination is essential, our response, in order to be truly successful, must be implemented at the local level. This panel brings together Professor John Fernández, artist Jeff Frost, Mayor of Jersey City Steven Fulop, atmospheric scientist Katharine Hayhoe, engineer B.H. Bronson Johnson, and Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez to discuss how working together, at the local level, can help to plan for and address key issues such as education of skeptical populations, resiliency measures, and response planning.

EXHIBITION Sanctuary of the Aftermath, LA Art Documents
Sanctuary of the Aftermath Opens virtually, Saturday, April 10th
Gallery appointments are to be determined.
Curated by Jason Jenn and Vojislav Radovanović, Sanctuary of the Aftermath investigates how art can create new channels for connection, even during prolonged periods of physical separation and quarantine. Site-specific installation art, video art, and auditory art are highlighted within an immersive atmosphere, which invites safe engagement to explore the issues and make personal discoveries. The artists’ paths uncover the universal in a therapeutic process and invites viewers to share in their experience through immersive art. During a time of intense socio-political injustice, environmental disaster, rapid technological changes, prolonged physical isolation, and anxiety - art can be a remedy.
Artists include Nica Aquino, Joseph Carrillo, Jeff Frost, Anita Getzler, David Hollen, Jason Jenn, Ibuki Kuramochi Rosalyn Myles, Vojislav Radovanović, Alison Ragguette, and Kayla Tange.
PANEL Actors From Witnesses, Earth Institute & Mana Contemporary
6-7pm EST (3-4pm PST)
RSVP
When art meets science, those who were once witnesses or observers of an issue can become active participants in advancing change. Artists help us witness majestic and unexplored terrain, and illustrate landscapes and imagery that viewers may never be able to visit in person. Pairing the imagery created by artists with the thoughts of climate experts, this panel will inspire its audience to move from passive witnesses to active agents of change.
Robin Bell will moderate a conversation among Caroline Juang, Zaria Forman, and Jeff Frost to investigate what emotions emerge from art and unpack how art can motivate us to move beyond fear to hope and action.
Presented in partnership with The Earth Institute at Columbia University and the Columbia Climate School.
